Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

BUT WHEN

Cliche: Life has its ups and downs. True, cliche or not. But as people of faith, how to weather the ups and downs?

When I felt secured, I said, "I will never be shaken."
Lord, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.
                                                    --Psalm 30:6,7 TNIV

Did you see, "but when?" In these two verses are the ups and the downs. David knows security and dismay. Yet ultimately he knows his life is indelibly connected to his God. David is not the source of favor, security, or standing firm. It is the "but whens" that remind him of this truth.

What of us? Make God not your after-thought, but your foundation. That's the way to weather the downs, and to savor best the ups.
