"GOOD" FRIDAY

March 29, 2013

What good could come from the death of an innocent man?

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."
                                                 --Matthew 26:26 TNIV

On the night before the cross of Good Friday, Jesus shares the Passover meal with his followers, but does a new thing, he takes the bread, and the cup, and says that the bread is his body broken for "you", and the cup is his blood shed for "you." "I am dying for you," in other words.

That death is very "good." It purchases the lives of us all. The sacrificial lamb brings life to us goats, and when we eat and drink the body and the blood, we re-invest in that life-giving redemption, and we live on in Christ! That is very good!

Joyfully,
