OUTSIDERS

February 7, 2013

Be careful when you start figuring out who is in and who is out.  Religious people have been infamous for this judgment, and wrong.

"Yes it is, Lord," she said, "Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table."
Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, you have great faith!  Your request is granted."  And her daughter was healed from that every hour.
                                                     --Matthew 15:27,28 TNIV

The woman with the dying daughter was an outsider, a Gentile, from a Jew's perspective, a dog.  But in Jesus, the woman saw her hope and would not be put off by tradition or convention.  "Help me!"

As Jesus does so often, he overrules the insider-outsider boundaries that are so important to many.  It's one of the reasons he would be crucified.  If you feel like an outsider, in Christ, you've come to the right one, Jesus.  Through the eyes of faith, like this woman, we all become insiders.

Joyfully,
