Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

DISOWN

January 15, 2013

We hear stories of an angry parent for whatever reason, disowning their child.  This is to say, "You are not my child."

Whoever publicly acknowledges me, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.  But whoever publicly disowns me I will disown before my Father in heaven.
                                               --Matthew 10:32,33 TNIV

I am wary of making doom-saying announcements.  But here's a little one: I believe we are moving into a time when it will be more difficult to publicly practice the Christian faith, and much more expedient to go into hiding or silence, faith-wise.  Yet the words above from Jesus' lips offer another double-edged sword.  We need not be obnoxious in bearing witness, but we must not be silent either.  To speak up or not will have consequences either way.

The issue appears to be: to be acknowledged or disowned.  So Jesus continues his traveling instructions for our lives in Matthew 10.

Soberly,
