Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

SALT

June 9, 2009

I love pepperoni. I love lots of pepperoni. Sometimes I get double pepperoni on our Friday night pizza. Then I awaken desiccated about three in the morning, desperately thirsty for water.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

- Psalm 42:1,2 TNIV

The Psalmist is desperately thirsty for God, like one going without water for many days. I love this Psalm 42, yet I confess to you, somewhat ashamed, I'm not sure it describes me all that often. I have a modest thirst every now and then for God, but desperately, panting for God...I'm not sure that honestly describes me, but it should.

Yes, it should describe all disciples of Christ. So what is the cure? Salt! Yes, salt. There is a tradition in Christian disicpleship that offers a prayer: "Feed the people salt, O God, until they thirst for you, for the living God. Make them thirsty for you before all else." Maybe that's a prayer for you and me today: "Lord, feed me salt such that I'm so thirsty for you, Lord Jesus, that you truly are the center of my life. Amen."
Joyfully,
