CONSCIOUS
September 15, 2011
To be unconscious is not to be aware of what's going on around oneself. When it dawns upon a person, they become aware, then they are conscious.
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
--Romans 3:20 TNIV
Here Paul puts it on the table. In Christian conviction the myth of human innocence is challenged straight up: "No one will be declared righteous." If it's by following do's and don'ts, we all are accounted as having failed. But that's not bad news, it's the foundation of good news, really! Perhaps more important, it's the truth. We become conscious of our failing, our sin, and our need for a savior.
What we could not accomplish on our own, is granted as a gift in Jesus Christ. Throughout the Romans letter, Paul says just this. Rejoice.
Joyfully,
