UNCLEAN

August 29, 2011

What does it mean to be "unclean?" Lepers had to walk the streets of Jesus' world warning all, "Unclean, unclean." We know unclean when someone needs to take a bath, but...?

But Ephraim has aroused his bitter anger; his Lord will leave on him the guilt of his bloodshed and will repay him for his contempt.
                                              - Hosea 12:14 TNIV

Ephraim symbolized all that was wrong with the people of God. The tribe of Ephraim? Unclean! Oh it wasn't because they needed soap and water, but their lives, like most of the people of God, were filthy in contempt of God, in rebellion aginst God, in apathy toward God. "His Lord will leave on him the guilt of his bloodshed..."

To be abandoned by God, to be left guilty, left unclean, filthy...no one has heard any worse news from God. Yet praise be to God in Jesus Christ, we have been washed of the filth through the work of Christ! Clean!

Joyfully,
