HOPE ANCHOR

May 25, 2009

A few years ago a couple of my minister-buddies and I rented a houseboat for a couple days, and we sailed on a nearby lake. It was great! Great until the thunderstorm squall line unleashed a forty mile per hour gale that loosened the anchor that blew the houseboat, now running amuck, toward a marina full of other boats. The failed anchor nearly caused a disaster.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.

- Hebrews 6:19,20 TNIV

Our hope is not so much in the circumstances of daily life, but in a person who will never fail us regardless of the circumstances. Our Christian hope may mean the houseboat is rescued, or crashes on the rocks, but we will never be separated from the God who loves us and the God who graces us with eternity.

The houseboat? Oh, yes, one of the intrepid ministers dove into the water, cleared the fouled propeller, and we managed to rescue the houseboat from careening into the marina. Our anchor wasn't much of an anchor. But Jesus Christ is our anchor of hope.
Joyfully,
