Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

KNOW BUT IGNORANT

October 10, 2011

How could it be possible to know someone yet be largely ignorant of that person?

"No longer will they teach their neighbors, or say to one another, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the Lord.
--Jeremiah 31:34 TNIV

Yet that is exactly what this great Puritan prayer confesses, that time in one's life when using God language they were still ignorant of a true relationship with God:

I bless thee that I know thee.
I once lived in the world, but was ignorant of its Creator, was partaker of thy providences, but knew not the Provider, was blind while enjoying the sunlight, was deaf to all things spiritual, with voices all around me, understood many things, but had no knowledge of thy ways, saw the world, but did not see Jesus only.

It may describe us all.  But it need not.  Pray today that you would see your God, your Lord Jesus Christ above all else.  Let us not live another day largely oblivious to our Great God.

Joyfully,
