ON THIS HILL

November 25, 2011

One of my ministry colleagues taught me a wise saying: "I don't want to die on this hill." In other words, pick your battles wisely.

Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
                                                  --Romans 14:19 TNIV

Christians can be nit-pickers about beliefs and lifestyle issues like what we should or should not do, or even, what we should eat and drink, etc. These may not be irrelevant issues, but the Apostle cautions to beware of fighting battles that need not be fought. And so his words above are spoken to us, the Body of Christ.

Paul urges us to focus on what unites us, on mutual edification, not on lesser issues. In other words, "Do we really need to die on this hill?" What if as a way of life, we let loose of some of our pet issues, and focused on what leads to peace and mutual edification.

Joyfullly,
