FOXHOLE THEOLOGY

August 17, 2011

It's said, "It's hard to be an atheist when there are bullets flying all around." In other words when people get really scared, there is a tendency to cry out to God. Or with bullets flying, and people dying around you in a foxhole, people start thinking about God.

Then I will return to my lair until they have borne their guilt and seek my face--in their misery they will earnestly seek me.
- Hosea 5:15 TNIV

As the Hosea saga continues, like Hosea's wanton wife, so the people of God are a hard-hearted, not quick to repent kind of people. Yet, God tells Hosea, in their misery they will once again cry out for me: "they will earnestly seek me."

What does that say of us? I pray it doesn't take disaster to summon our whole-hearted devotion to Jesus Christ. Yet, even if it does, God is the god who will hear our cry.

Joyfully,
