WHY?

August 8, 2011

We humans are inclined to ask many "Why?" questions, usually, why are we now struggling, suffering, etc?

When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, "Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord. So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.
                                                 - Hosea 1:2,3 TNIV

So...my why question is why would God put in the Bible such a story as that of Hosea and Gomer. Why would God put in the "Holy Bible," the "Good Book," the story of a pathetic loving husband married to a street-walker, a strumpet? Clearly it was for a reason, but maybe the reason is less-than-clear.

Yet we are told, I think in the first words: "this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord." Could it be that when we read Hosea's story, we learn God's story of being married to you and me? And maybe, God thinks, by our knowing the story, we can be blessed by it ourselves, you think? In other words, God calls us, "Gomer!"

Joyfully,
