CONFIDENCE

May 18, 2009

A young child is confident of their parent's care and love. Sadly on occasion that confidence is crushed by the parent's failures. Yet in their nature, a child trusts the parent's care and love will be there.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin. Let us then, approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we my receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

- Hebrews 4:14-16 TNIV

Like a child confident of their parent's love, we are told here that we can have even greater confidence in our welcome to God's presence to receive Christ's mercy and grace. Everything in us coming to adulthood teaches us self-confidence. But our confidence is not internal, not in the self, but in Him, in Jesus Christ. It's not what we do, but what he did, and who he is.

Good news! For once in our lives we no longer have to worry about getting it right, that our hair is parted, makeup just so...we come into Christ's presence today and tomorrow in faith, trusting him, not us!
Joyfully,
