GOD'S WILL, Vol 8 No 9

March 3, 2009

Dear Friend,

On Sunday, knowing a major snow storm was heading into the area, I drove to church mulling over whether to stick with an airplane flight scheduled to depart right after the storm was to end or push it back one day.

At that precise instant a car pulled in front of me. The license plate said, “Ott 2 go.” As you may imagine, that got my attention! I began to mull again. “Lord, if that is a ‘word’ from you, does it mean go with the original flight or move the flight!” I had no clue. Perhaps it was just a license plate!

When facing difficult choices, we often ask for God’s guidance and think it would be great to just receive a direct word from God that says do this or do that. Instead, our Lord invites us to ask for wisdom! Notice the promise James offers is unconditional. Ask for wisdom and you will receive it:

“If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.” James 1:5*

When we face the uncertain moment, when our path is not clear, we ask for God’s wisdom and trust God to guide us with the information we gather, even if it seems inadequate. Then we take courage and make a decision, trusting that our Lord will guide us and work through us as we choose among options.

God’s ultimate will in our decisions is that we trust our Lord to be with us no matter what we decide and as we move on to take the adventure the Lord has for us! “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
