AMBITION

April 27, 2011

What do we want?  What do we want for our children, and their children?

"Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David.  But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.  Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number.  So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong."
                                            --1 Kings 3:7-9 TNIV

Solomon follows his father, David, to the throne of Israel.  We know of the story of the wisdom of Solomon, and it's illustrated in the prayer above.  But it also may be an issue of ambition, not simply wisdom.  God commends Solomon for such ambition, not wealth and success, but wisdom, integrity, and a true heart.

How do our ambitions reflect a Christ-centered heart?  What about the dreams we have for our children and grandchildren?  Wouldn't we be wise like Solomon if our ambitions reflected his example?  Could we pray Solomon's prayer for ourselves, our loved ones?

Joyfully,
