GOD'S FIREWORKS, Vol 8 No 18

May 5, 2009

Dear Friend,

Driving through the suburbs of northern Virginia on a rainy day, my mind and mood centered on a number of pressing matters when I was suddenly aware of the brilliantly, beautiful, spring blossoms on every side of the road.

While no words were spoken, it was as if our loving Lord was calling to me:
“Wake up! As I said to Martha, ‘you are worried and distracted by many things.’ (Luke 10:41) While you are preoccupied, I surround you with my fireworks, the stunning beauty of my creation. Remember, I am the very present God of beauty and of love! Remember, I am with you!”

Immediately the wonderful words of the nineteenth psalm came to mind:
“The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4*

It’s easy to drive, walk, and pass through life staring at a computer or a smart phone or a desk or a road or to have one’s mind so occupied with various matters that we literally do not see the glory of our Lord around us!
Wake up! See the beauty around you and worship your Lord!

“For the beauty of the earth, For the Glory of the skies, For the love which from our birth over and around us lies: Lord of all, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.” Folliott S. Pierpoint
