SELF-CONTROL
February 1, 2011
In the cultural revolution of the 1960s "self-control" became "prudish inhibitions." Self-control, today, is threatened on the altar of self-indulgence: "Go on, do it, you deserve it."
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good.
- Titus 2:6,7 TNIV
Self-control is urged for the young guys, and the more mature are not exempt but an example to be honored and emulated.
Once again the way of Christ, discipleship, represents an in-your-face challenge to much of the daily ways of living then and now. Better yet, the good news is that a Christ-follower has the Holy Spirit, and as we grow in the Spirit and in the knowledge and application of God's Word in scripture, we will have a growing capacity to be Spirit-controlled.
Joyfully,
