CHRONIC

September 27, 2010

The word, "chronic" comes from the Greek word, "chronos," meaning "time." So chronic carries the meaning, "all the time," "throughout time," as opposed to momentary.

Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.

- Isaiah 10:1,2 TNIV

The prophet speaks of a chronic flaw amongst humanity: injustice, oppression, inequity of those not able to defend or provide for themselves. Isaiah spoke these words as much as 2700 years ago. In our nature, we humans are prone to inequity and injustice, and thank God for the Isaiah's of this world. There is no life for the victims or perpetrators of such chronic evil.

It's a chronic problem, yet one addressed by our seeking God's leadership. "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

Joyfully,
