Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

PRESS ON

August 27, 2010

“The Tortoise and The Hare" risks being a forgotten story to the next generations. Sprinters, the hare, streak through life and catch the attention of all--flashy. Tortoises: They just plod on, press on.

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward to what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:12-14 TNIV

Discipleship is a tortoise-sport or way of life. Paul tells fellow disciples that he keeps the goal ahead of him. I suspect that the hares were yawning, and before the paragraph was finished, they'd already taken off in another direction. Too bad. They risk missing the prize.

What are you going to do today? Paul says, "Press on" in Christ. Plod on. One last word, like Paul says here, remember who wins the race, it's the tortoise, not the hare.
Joyfully,
