ONE-OFF Vol 9 No 20

June 8, 2010

Dear Friend,

I hear the interesting term “one-off” used in a variety of contexts today.  It means that which is one of a kind, singular or unique.

A house or painting or a song is a one-off if it will not be repeated or duplicated.  If it’s a one-off, it’s one of a kind. You are a one-off!

Our loving Lord had you uniquely in mind when he formed you in your mother’s womb. You will not be duplicated, repeated or reproduced.  You are one of a kind.

As Mark Twain once wrote, we are all originals!  You are the only you in all of time and eternity who will ever exist!

Consider the word workmanship in this text, “For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:10*

Workmanship is a translation of the Greek word poiema which also means poem!  You are a one-off poem of Jesus.  Composed by him uniquely to live with him, love and be loved by him.

Indeed your relationship with Jesus is a one-off.  No one else in all of history and eternity will ever have exactly the same relationship with Jesus that you have through your trust in him, just as the relationship between a parent and every child of that parent is unique.

“[The shepherd] calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” John 10:3  Jesus calls you by name, uniquely as the beloved one-off you are to him.  Rejoice and relax in him!

With joy,
