HOUSE-CLEANING

April 13, 2010

Most of us realize from time to time, a little housecleaning is called for. We not only tidy up, but discard refuse, polish and put in order our dwelling.

"Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a market!" His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for your house will consume me."
-John 2:16,17 TNIV

When Jesus arrives at the Temple in Jerusalem, his father's house. It's a mess. Oh, it might be neat and tidy, but trashed up with activities that have nothing to do with the worship of the Lord. It's polluted with diversions from God. It's an unholy dump. Jesus cleanses the Temple, we are told. He does some housecleaning.

Jesus is not a big one to advocate washing and bathing as a way to houseclean our lives. The housecleaning he urges is looking into the heart, the mind, the soul. When he comes, he sets about to house-clean. Got any untidiness in your life?
Joyfully,
