Too Friendly

There's an old saying, "Be in the world, but not of the world." Meaning we can be so heavenly minded that we're disconnected from the world God made, and wants us to minister unto, if not enjoy. Enjoy life, enjoy God. However...

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God....Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God...--James 4:4,7 NRS

In this case, James is concerned that we may be a bit too friendly with the world, too much "in" and "of" the world. So he issues a caution, and a re-direction for us.

This one hits me between the eyes. And most of my acquaintances and friends--if we have a problem it is not being too other-worldly, but too friendly with this world, a bit too cozy. James issues his caution.
