QUICK - SLOW

March 11, 2010

"Quick" and "slow" are words appropriate for what it looks like to be a Christ-follower. Sometimes quick, sometimes slow.

________________________________________
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, because our anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
- James 1:19 TNIV
________________________________________

Many of us have the slow-thing, and the quick-thing down pat. But more than likely it is the opposite of the godly counsel of James. Too often we are slow to listen; we speak up without time really to hear the other person. And where we're quick is to be offended; we have hair-pin triggers on our anger. We're so easily irked that people may not like to be around us. So James tells us in the Spirit, we need to turn it around.

Quick-Slow. It's a matter of the Spirit's formation in each of us. To seek God's nurture of Christ's nature in us, not ours--to learn not a self-centered Quick-Slow, but a Christ-centered Quick-Slow.
Joyfully,
