Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

Dale Patterson

THE END

April 6, 2009

Having read the Book of Ecclesiastes, what is one to do with the Preacher's oft-spoken words, everything is meaningless, life is little more than "a chasing after the wind?"

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter.
Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of every human being.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing whether it is good or evil.
- Ecclesiastes 12:13,14 TNIV

The End, the conclusion of the matter. Amidst the harshness and happiness, with all the absurdity of existence, and the common failure to make sense of it all, the rest is God! Existence is not the center, we are not the center, but the integrating point of it all, God.

Life finds meaning in a growing relationship with God. Maybe Ecclesiastes was ahead of St. Augustine, who said, "Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee." Ecclesiastes saw the need for the filling of that God-shaped void in us all. The End.
Joyfully,
