BUILDING PROGRAM

December 28, 2009

Sometimes in our enthusiasms, we launch out on new initiatives, bold programs. Sometimes we build a hospital in our name, or donate a building to our alma mater. Sometimes we launch a building program.

"You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the Lord his God until the Lord put his enemies under his feet. But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster. I intend...to build a temple for the Name of the Lord my God..."

Solomon's devotion, not only to his father, but to his God, prompts him to launch a building program, to build a temple for the Lord. As we approach another year, I suggest an alternative to a building program for us.

What if the temple we erect were us? The building program the Spirit woos us with in all our days to come is not of bricks or steel, but our person--that we would be the temple of Christ's Spirit, that we would strive to be the person God calls us to be? May our enthusiasm lead us to build a temple to God's glory, and may it be us.
Joyfully,
