YET

November 11, 2009

"Yet" is a powerful three-letter word. Often it changes the tune of what's been stated, as in, "in spite of." "Yet" is an important word for 21st century Christ-followers.

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged word. I know where you live--where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city--where Satan lives.
- Revelation 2:12,13 TNIV

Much can be said of the Letters to the Seven Churches in the Revelation, but in this context, let's keep it simple. "Yet"--The church in Pergamum, like most of the churches and John himself in that day, suffers much in the pressures of daily life to remain faithful to her Lord Jesus Christ. YET... Pergamum is a provincial capital of the Roman Empire, "where Satan has his throne." YET...in spite of all the temptations, they have remained faithful. John's vision, however, warns them not to compromise on the foundational matters of faith in the crucible of daily pressures.

YET--it's a word important for you and me. "Yet you remain true to my name." I pray the angel of the seven churches would say the same of you, and me...YET.
Joyfully,
