THE CROWN

"Crown" is a biblical symbol of accomplishment, a precious gift, reward. It could be said that our crown is what we've always hoped for.

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor's crown.

The Christians in Smyrna were a hard-scrabble people. Life was tough for them. And in this vision, the Lord tells them, it may get tougher yet, but to be faithful is to win everything, to win the victor's crown. What is the victor's crown? Life! Life as they always hoped and prayed it would be. Be faithful.

You are not in prison today. But you may be up against it. Make it your purpose, friend, to be faithful to Christ above all. The crown will be your future. This is not a pie-in-the-sky platitude, but a promise from the Lord of all.
