INVENTORY

July 27, 2009

We all know about the glass half full or half empty. And every now and then, we stop to take inventory and see how things are shaping up.

Now, they gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey. Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified, and very large...."

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
-Number 14:27,28,30 TNIV

As the people of God approach the Promised Land, Moses sends a team of explorers into the land to check it out. When the team returns from the mission, they report the land is rich, as God promised, but the people who live there are big and scary, meaning: "We're no match for them;" "We'll never out-duel them;" "Forget the Promised Land!" But one of the team, Caleb, offers a different spin. He trusts God's promise, not only for a rich and bounteous land, but that God will go with the people to possess the land, and to overcome any challenge they will face.

Keep in mind, the majority faltered and feared. One, one person said, "Let's do it! And our God go with us." When you inventory the challenges that confront you today, keep in mind God's promise. I suspect the inventory will always balance in favor of fear and faltering. Yet like Caleb, we are the people of the living God!
Joyfully,
