PURITY

June 25, 2009

When is the last time you used the word "purity?" Of what were you speaking? Bottled water, gold? Were you talking about your life, the way you live?

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have...
- Hebrews 13:4,5 TNIV

Hebrews illustrates two purity concerns--the marriage vows, and our money. "Keep your lives free..." Purity is lost when we are trapped by sinful and inappropriate indulgence of our passions. Sex and money are the two illustrations: our use and devotion to money, and honoring our promise to fidelity to our vows are common areas where purity is quickly forgotten.

If we drank polluted water, scummy stuff, we'd taste and feel that it's no good, not healthy. The Word of God says how much more is purity true for our lives, yet it's almost never a topic addressed, or a concern in our lives. Discipline, even life, urges us to be more concerned about the way we live than the water we drink.
Joyfully,
