DAY OF THE LORD
September 5, 2013
The word of the Lord cautions of a coming "Day of the Lord." It is a major theme of Joel.
Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.
Alas for that day! For the day of the Lord is near, it will come like destruction from the Almighty.
--Joel 1:14,15 TNIV

Joel's words lament the status of a community filled with injustice, economic inequity, worship of most everything but the Lord--and that this will not be tolerated much longer.
One way of viewing this is to say, "This is hell, fire and brimstone. What a downer!" That is to miss the point. The caution is not to terrorize; terror already is happening! The point is to correct the inequity, the point is to repent and worship the Lord.

Joyfully,
