SHINE

I just got home from the mountains of New Mexico. I woke up one night at three o'clock and looked up in the sky. Without the city lights I've never seen so many shiny stars, amazing.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky, as you hold firmly to the word of life.

The Philippians lived in a "happening" place, like many of us. Paul urges them to make the way they live in Christ, how they treat others, to make them stand out, shine. It happens by how they interact with the world, and the world and our neighbors are not the example, but the word of life, and stuff like "without grumbling or arguing." That makes them shine.

If we are simply like our neighbor, and our community, we're like the night sky, nothing sparkling there. But as we follow Christ, and hold on to him and his word, then we shine. Let's shine today.
