The Hosea story is like a parent leading, loving a wayfaring child.

When Israel was a child, I loved him...but the more they were called, the more they went away from me....I lead them with cords of human kindness with ties of love...My people are determined to turn from me...

In spite of God's love, God's provision, the children of God run away from that love and serve other gods; gods that are not God. How to restore them, how to redeem them?

Condemnation? Terror? Judgment? Wrath? God says, "For I am God, and not a human being..." God will not do to his people, to us, as we would do. God lives out his parent role choosing to love, that love for an unloveable, that will redeem and give life. Of course, God is speaking to you and me.
