THE DISCIPLINE OF PURPOSE Vol 11 No 22

October 24, 2012

Dear Friend,

If your purpose was to finish a marathon or do well in a difficult class or succeed in your life's work, would you coast along, hoping it happens, or would you focus your mind, your time and your efforts on your goal? We all know the answer!

When I enter the words “the discipline of purpose” into Google, nearly all of the websites that pop up change the order of the words to “the purpose of discipline.” They all speak of the reasons for which discipline plays a role in our lives.

I would suggest the primary purpose of discipline is the discipline of purpose.

It is the discipline you exercise in focusing your life on the fulfillment of the major purpose(s) of your life. When your purpose is clear and you have the passion to fulfill it, you are going to shape your life, discipline your life in ways to fulfill your purpose.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.” I Corinthians 9:26-27*

Do you know your purpose, that for which the discipline that focuses your whole being is clear and consequential?

Do you practices the discipline of purpose, controlling yourself and your many inclinations in such a way that your aim is indeed the desired fruit of your life?

May the Lord who loves you be the greatest purpose of your life!
