SPURS

June 2, 2009

I'm not a horseman, but I'm a little familiar with spurs. Riders often wear spurs to guide the horse, to control the horse.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

- Hebrews 10:24,25 TNIV

One of the great American myths or lies is that it's "none of your business." Hmmm? It might be constitutional, but it's not consistent with Christian discipleship. Nor only are sisters and brothers in Christ related to one another, we are to spur one another, to exhort, to push on to conform to Christ's calling. Our life is Christ's business, and we get there together, spurring one another.

Further we do so in communion, not isolation, but "meeting together." You are the spur that God uses to call me to faithfulness. And I am a spur as well.
Joyfully,
