YOUR GOD

August 30, 2011

My assumption is that if you read these words routinely, then you have resolved the issue of who is your God, yes?

But I have been the Lord your God ever since you came out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me. I cared for you in the wilderness, in the land of burning heat. When I fed them, they were satisfied; they became proud; then they forgot me.
                                                - Hosea 13:4-6

"I have been the Lord YOUR God..." Hosea's message to the people of God reminds them of God's faithfulness, and the terms of the covenant. Yet even though God has been faithful, the people were quick to forget, to pursue other passions, other gods. God tells them: "This is intolerable."

If God, "our God" were looking at our walk these past days, would God say the same of us? In the good times, are we prone to think too highly of ourselves, our accomplishments, and too little of the providence of God. So ponder this day what it means for these words to pass through our lips: "your God," "Our God."

Joyfully,
