DID NOT ENTER

November 10, 2011

The Bible has many words, but sometimes what fascinates me is how in this mass of words, there is a one-liner, or a phrase simply dropped into the middle of all those other words, and we can easily miss what may be really big.

[Jotham] did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done, but unlike him he did not enter the temple of the Lord.
--2 Chronicles 27:2 TNIV

Jotham was a little known King of Judah, most of the kings of Judah did not make the Hall of Fame of spiritual giants. At least we're told Jotham "did right in the eyes of the Lord." However, did you get the one liner: "He did not enter the temple of the Lord." Why are we told that? Is it simply to use a few more words and fill in our Bibles?

In truth, I'm not sure it's meaning, but when God inspired the writing of this holy writ, I'm sure it was not accident. "He did not enter the temple of the Lord." God wants us to hear that and ponder it. It's for people with ears to hear, and minds to ponder the wisdom and blessing of God.

Joyfully,
