GROW UP

May 21, 2009

One of the central themes of being a Christian, of discipleship, is maturity, our faith, our person growing to Christ-likeness, not just getting older.

In fact, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

- Hebrews 5:12-14 TNIV

The Hebrews are confronted in love that while they are getting older, they are not growing up spiritually, they are still nursing. Spiritually-speaking, they are told that while they should be eating adult food, they are still gumming on baby food. Interesting, the test of the food, is not so much meat versus cereal, but knowing what is good versus what is evil. "Here you are all grown up, but you cannot tell what is of God, and good for discipleship versus what is a waste, or even evil."

It's time to grow up, the Hebrews are told. More to come...
Joyfully,
