SUPPER

July 20, 2011

One of my grandsons, if let to himself, would eat nothing but French fries. He doesn't understand food and nutrition...he just likes French fries.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body."
Then he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
"This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many, " he said to them."
                                                      --Mark 14:22-24 TNIV

Think of all we fail to comprehend about eating the sacramental meal of communion:
--eating a piece of bread and a sip of wine--"my body and blood"
--'poured out for many"--How many? Does it include my enemy? Only believers? The heathen? Me?
--How can this sorry portion be food for us? This is supper?

But our failure to comprehend doesn't mean God still is not feeding us, redeeming us. Like my grandson, he doesn't quite understand French fries, but he likes them. And I like the bread and the cup of Christ!

Joyfully,
