POINT OUT Vol 10 No 17

July 12, 2011

Dear Friend,

Perhaps the clearest and easiest way to bear witness to the reality of God and the person of Jesus was modeled by John the Baptist.

In John’s Gospel, we read, “
The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, ‘Look, here is the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.” John 1:35-37*

Four things jump right out.

First, John and two of his followers were just standing around minding their own business.
Second, John becomes aware that Jesus is walking near by.
Third, John merely points Jesus out to his two friends with the brief comment, “The Lamb of God.”
Fourth, the two begin to follow Jesus.

So when you are hanging around with the people in your life, simply look for the appropriate opportunity to point out Jesus.

“The Good Lord encouraged me with that phone call yesterday.”
“I find my life makes the most sense when I center it on the person of Jesus.”
“While there are many religious figures in our day, I have always found Jesus the most centering reality.”
“The most compelling invitation I have ever heard was that of Jesus who says, ‘Come.’”

When you point out Jesus to someone who is with you, then trust and leave the results to God – and be grateful for the person(s) who pointed Jesus out to you.

With joy - E. Stanley Ott
