WORTHLESS

It's a word to be used cautiously, but a word that God and the Prophets use: Worthless.
They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had offered them, "Do not do as they do."

Philosopher George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." 2 Kings 17 records the last days of the Northern Kingdom, Israel. It also offers us a diagnosis of a significant part of Israel's problem. Israel no longer sought God's counsel, God's Word, but looked to the people and ways of the people around them--"imitated." And that was all she wrote.
I am certain that a reason we have God's Word to us is that we might be blessed not to repeat history's mistakes. Today I pray, we've learned something from the collapse of Israel. Have we?
