TOUCHING JESUS

May 13, 2011

Rabbit's foot?  Remember them.  If you touch a rabbit's foot, better yet, put one in your pocket, you might have good luck.  No need to turn the Christian faith into such a talisman, or good luck piece.  On the other hand...

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him.  He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"
                                                    - Mark 5:30 TNIV

The crowds press in upon Jesus, and a woman, desperate after years of suffering a hemorrhage, hopes that Jesus can heal her, but there's too many people.  It's impossible to get an audience with the Master.  He goes by her, and she stretches out and only touches the fringe of his robe; it's then that it happens.  She is healed, and Jesus knows it.

This is no rubbing a lucky charm; this is a stretch of faith, looking to Jesus by the mercy of God.  Are you just hanging out with Jesus, or are you touching him?  The power of the good news is not good luck, but the power of connecting with Christ, touching him in all we do.  Today, touch him, reach out for him, not simply for a moment of religious or prayerful thought, but stay in touch with him in all you do, all day long.

Joyfully,
