GREAT WHITE THRONE

March 30, 2011

John's picture of the fulfillment of history comes fast and furious in the last few pages.  The judgment and accountability spoken of, warned of, finally happen.

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it.  The earh and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.
                                                       - Revelation 20:11 TNIV

Why?  Why do these people want to flee God's presence, the throne of judgment?  Might it be that time and again God's mercy was offered through the grace of God in Jesus Christ, and these who have survived the persecution are left with no mercy, and to stand solely on their own record?  It's as if to say, "If you want to be judged based on your deeds, so be it."

The good news of Jesus Christ spares us of "our record," our works, and blesses us with grace and mercy, spared the judgment of this throne.  Thanks be to God in Christ, that we need not demand justice, but can fall before God in the trust of mercy in Jesus Christ.  That's really good news.

Joyfully,
