Enjoy Life, Enjoy God
RULES
December 28, 2010
Speed limits, athletic events, community living...you need rules. But rules, how is it said, "Are made to be broken."
No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs, rather, they try to please their commanding officer. Similarly, anyone who competes as a athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules.
- 2 Timothy 2:4,5 TNIV
Paul urges his disciple in the importance of working within the boundaries, the rules. We get this for football and basketball, but it seems we bristle against it when it comes to real life. Sometimes we even we laud the person who is outside the boundaries. Paul teaches a truth not just about athletics and community living but the kingdom of God.
To follow Christ is to heed one's commanding officer, Jesus Christ. To follow Christ is to honor Christ's ways and rules. This is not a curse but the road to life.
Joyfully,
Dale Patterson
