THIRSTY

November 26, 2010

What do you do when you're thirsty? What do you do when you're hungry? We drink water to quench, and eat some food to satisfy, right?

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Isaiah 55:1,2 TNIV

Easy to say "buy food" when you have no money, right? But the prophet speaks of God providing here. The real concern is eating and drinking, attempting to quench thirsts and satisfy hungers with that which will never satisfy. Our consumer culture always panders to us to meet needs with the purchase of another product, or indulgence in another experience. Isaiah says, "Think again."

Thirst. A relationship with the living God, a growing thriving experience of God. It does not make all the problems go away. But is the only true source, the only real fountain to slake our thirst.

Joyfully,
