DESERT STREAMS

October 22, 2010

I've never lived in the desert or spent much time there. But I've watched what happens when water touches the parched soils, almost instantly life springs forth.

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
- Isaiah 35:5,6 NRS

The prophet knows that the people of God have lived in a desert spiritually-speaking. They are dried up and lifeless, parched and desolate. Whatever the reasons, their lives are a desert, but that is not the last word. A new day comes, streams in the desert.

Have you ever seen pictures of what happens when the rainy season comes to the Kalahari Desert in Africa? An explosion of plants, flowers everywhere, animal-life too many to count. Isaiah sees streams in the desert for the people of faith. Keep that vision-promise when you find yourself in the desert.

Joyfully,
