Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

gods

October 1, 2010

Our culture of tolerance and pluralism makes us these days less inclined to attack or ridicule the gods of another culture. However...

If a prophet or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, "Let us follow others gods...and let us worship them," you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the Lord you God you must follow, and him you must revere.
- Deuteronomy 13:1-4 TNIV

Maybe the "gods" of our world do not stand out in contrast as easily as the gods of the Canaanites versus the Lord, but the differences still exist today. Yes, I concede to live in peace with our neighbors in spite of our differences is a good thing. But to trifle with and worship the gods of the world, there is no such compromise.

Moses taught the Israelites, and we would do well to ponder, how have the gods of this day crept into our service, our worship? "It is the Lord your God you must follow and him you must revere."
Joyfully,
