POEM Vol 9 No 31

September 21, 2010

Dear Friend,

One of the beautiful verses in the Bible says, “For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10*

While the idea that we are created to do good works prepared in advance for us to do by the God who loves us is wonderful, the first phrase of this verse is truly amazing, “We are God’s workmanship!”

The word translated “workmanship” is from the wonderful Greek word poiema from which we have the English word “poem.”

You are a poem of God!

Have you ever written a poem?  When one of our children comes home for a few days I love to sit down and compose a poem with elements of humor, welcome and love that I tape to their bedroom door.  Writing a poem takes effort, imagination and creativity.

For you to be a poem of God means that you are no accident, that our Lord has thought a lot about you, that he has put a lot of time and energy into the you that is you.

God loves you and in Jesus Christ is always thinking wonderful thoughts about you!

Here is a simple prayer you may use to lay the poem of your life before its author:

The only me I want to be

Is the poem of me

Composed by Thee.
