BEATITUDES II

August 20, 2010

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will..." You remember the Beatitudes of Jesus, right? Paul gives us Beatitudes II.
In your relationships with one another, have the same attitude of mind Christ Jesus had.

Who being in the very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather he made himself nothing...humbled himself.
- Philippians 2:5-7 TNIV

It's a part of what is called "The Christ Hymn," Philippians 2:6-11. The song turns upside down our natural values system, just like the Beatitudes function. We want to be noticed, accomplished, rewarded, be "of note," and The Christ Hymn says that in Christ, "forget about it!" The only thing important is service unto Christ, bowing the knee to Christ.
In our best and most honest moments, the values systems we often invest in is a well of pain, disappointment and frustration, because, as a rule, the rewards are short-lived, if ever accomplished. Paul points us to Christ, and so do I.
Joyfully,
