BELIEF UNTO LIFE

There is a risk that our beliefs get reduced to "head stuff." Meaning a belief that really does not direct and control our life is merely an idea.

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name. - John 20:30,31 NRS

In these words John tells us why he wrote his gospel, and yes it involves belief, but more importantly, that belief is unto life! The Christian message, the gospel, is not so much to give us information, to add or replace beliefs with new ones. No. But to give us life and life eternal.
This is no mere intellectual or cognitive exercise. It's about life, and that life in Christ is for the living today.
