BUNGEE JUMPING Vol 9 No 23

July 13, 2010

Dear Friend,

The national gathering of leaders from my Christian denomination met last week.  I found myself in a series of remarkably varied experiences and emotions that were often the opposite of each other.

From feeling connected with people one moment to feeling alone the next.  From feeling significant one moment to feeling insignificant the next.  From joy to sorrow and back to joy.  From welcome to exclusion to welcome.  From unity to division and back again.

Sometimes such experiences happened at the same time or within the same minute!

Gatherings like that are simply microcosms of life.  Our personal circumstances can vary wildly minute to minute from the most encouraging to the most frustrating.

To put it another way, life can feel like emotional bungee jumping!

It is in such moments that I rediscover and find great solace in the reality that while life changes second by second, the loving Lord we know and love is utterly constant.

8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”* Hebrews 13:8

“My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

Whether you feel that you are going up or falling down, hear the voice of Jesus calling you.

Follow him. He will never drop you!

With joy - E. Stanley Ott
